rethdis-love:

— Where are you now, Gambler?

He squinted at the setting sun, which slowly descended into the ancient jungle, and said uncertainly:

— I do not know, my love. Maybe home?

— This is a good choice, — the woman smiled. — Gambler?

— Mmm?

— I love you.

The man grinned and pulled her to him.

— And I love you, Reth.

The end.

And I don’t even know what to do now. But I don’t want to write stories anymore… though…

I don’t know.

4 May 2018 — 4 November 2018.

Thank you all for the comments, it was very important to me.

With love, yours Rethdis.

— Reth! I
don’t know if you really shared an eternity with me or if I just look
like a teenager, and I don’t live so long, but I beg you — do not chase
me, let me make you happy. I can handle! I’m not the boy you knew anymore.

— You will always be a boy to me, — the woman whispered. — But I am afraid that you will think that I accepted you only because you are now immortal, like me … but this is not true! You
know … elves are really arrogant and I could not admit to myself that
I need you and that I am waiting for you back every day. It’s my fault, Gambler. All these years… You know, I tried to look for you, but the attempts turned into failure and I gave up all hope. And just lived, as before, only feeling like a traitor.

— No, my love, you are not a traitor. We are both idiots and have lost so much time — well, what should I have just come to you? But at first it was a children’s insult to you, and then… Then everything became so… different. I still needed you, but now I could not leave one little girl, who also needed me. And then I was alone again. And I gave up. All the women who should be important in my life left me. Mother, you, daughter… Probably, this is because I am selfish and demanded that you love me? But no one is obliged to do this. And then I realized that my life is dices. And I began to play again, without even noticing how time passed. But it went damn strange, I just recently realized how old I am. It seemed to me that quite a bit of time had passed …

— I’m sixty-four, — he said sadly. — When it came to me, I realized that I had lost my last chance to see you. And I decided to just wait for the end, because I am a coward. And I am very tired to live. Not all ends happily, right? But it turned out that I still look the same, the same nineteen teenager. This
is wrong and should not be so… And for several months I could not
accept this, constantly peered into the mirror in fear that I would wake
up one morning in the morning, and it would turn out that I did get old…

— But maybe this is the chance to start all over again? I want to make up all this time while we were separated. You are mine Reth, only mine.

— You are mine, Gambler, — the woman echoed again. — Forgive me, love. My eternity is yours.

He squeezed her in his arms and time stood still for them. And
for the Gambler there was only she, the woman whom he always sought,
through time and worlds. And for Reth, there was only him, the man she
had been waiting for all these years… by anyone.

Gambler laughed and pulled the woman closer to him.

— I do not long for immortality, but I long for eternity with you. Are you ready, Reth?

She closed her eyes and reached for his lips, warm and weathered, as always.

— I’m ready, Gambler.

And they disappeared into each other. And so it was right.

— But how, Gambler? What did you do to yourself?

She felt his face. Sad black eyes watched her, not looking up.

— What I’ve done? Not. What did YOU do, Reth? I’m sure that you did something with me, that I’m not getting old and I look like I did when I met you.

She clutched at his face again and looked into the eyes of a man. And hesitantly replied:

— It
seems… it seems that I shared my eternity with you… But how… I
have never been strong in magic, and with the magic of this world I
have not learned to be controlled properly… There is a lot of magic
here,
— she explained response to his puzzled face. — I feel it, but I can hardly grasp it. But I didn’t even think that it was possible to share my immortality with someone …

— Oh. That seems to be a different kind of magic, Reth. But now you won’t drive me away?

— Stupid! — the woman screamed and burst into tears.

— Sorry, — he finally hugged her and inhaled the smell of her hair, painfully familiar and familiar. How did he miss him. — For all these years, I understood why you then broke off our relationship. If I were you, I would do the same — it is easier to break all the threads at once than to suffer long and hard then …

He thought about Tasha. She has long been an adult, did she remember about him at least once? Gambler shook his head, driving away heavy thoughts. It’s all in the past again.

— Probably, you hate me, Gambler? I caused you so much pain, and you still came back to me after so many years. You even managed to find me in this world… after death in ours.

— What? — Gambler raised an eyebrow. And when he heard the story of a woman, he whistled. — Ciryon? I like this name. But I still remain as Gambler.

— You weren’t even surprised, — the woman jerked his ear.

— I wonder if I’m so strange, — the man laughed.

He pulled the woman to him.

— All these years I wanted to at least see you. You
know, when I lived in the mountains, I dreamed of showing you the
winter forest, so quiet that it seems as if the snow from the trees
falls from your breath. And the sunset on the lake, when the sun seems to be sinking in it and the waves spread the red color all over the lake. And the rain and rainbow after them on the green islands, overgrown with moss. I want to show you a lot of things in this world that I saw myself and did not see.

— I can press you? Sorry if you interfere.

Gambler squinted at an elderly woman and smiled.

— Of course, — he pulled up on the bench.

The woman nestled comfortably beside her and looked approvingly at Gambler.

— It’s nice to see that people of your age wear such hats.

Gambler touched the edge of the hat and laughed:

— It seems to me that at my age only you can wear them. However, I have been wearing it since the age of nineteen and it is already a part of me. And even more decent looks.

— I don’t think that in a couple of years you can completely kill her, — the old woman laughed too.

— For a couple? — Gambler grinned. — I’ve been wearing it for almost forty-five years.

— Young man! Are you laughing at me? You are not more than twenty!

Gambler wiped sweaty hands on jeans.

— I’m sixty-four, — he declared.

— Young man! I’m old, but that doesn’t mean you can laugh at me. What kind of youth went!

She rose from the bench, grumbling, waited her lips disapprovingly and walked slowly along the path. Gambler tried to calm down a desperate heart pounding. What nonsense did he hear? What is he young? Although, he really felt like a twenty year old. But he didn’t pay attention to his appearance for a long time.

He jumped on the bench and rushed to the hotel where he rented a room. In the bathroom, he took a deep breath and stared determinedly at himself in the mirror.
